Henry Morrison Flagler Museum (Whitehall)

The Henry Morrison Flagler Museum, located in Palm Beach, Florida, is housed in Whitehall, a grand 75-room mansion built in 1902. Designed by the renowned architectural firm Carrère and Hastings, Whitehall exemplifies Beaux-Arts architecture and was constructed as a wedding gift from industrialist Henry Flagler to his third wife, Mary Lily Kenan . The mansion features opulent interiors with marble floors, gilded ceilings, and period furnishings, offering a glimpse into the lavish lifestyle of the Gilded Age . In 1959, Flagler's granddaughter, Jean Flagler Matthews, purchased the estate to prevent its demolition, and it opened to the public as a museum in 1960 . Today, the museum showcases exhibits on Flagler's life, the development of Florida's east coast, and the history of the Florida East Coast Railway . Visitors can explore the meticulously restored rooms, stroll through the lush grounds, and view Flagler's private railcar, No. 91, displayed in the adjacent Flagler Kenan Pavilion .
