Laurel Falls Trail

Laurel Falls Trail, located in Great Smoky Mountains National Park near Sevierville, Tennessee, is renowned for leading hikers to one of the park's most iconic waterfalls. The trail spans 2.6 miles roundtrip, with the first 1.3 miles paved, making it accessible for most visitors. The path meanders through lush forests adorned with mountain laurel and rhododendron, culminating at the 80-foot Laurel Falls, a two-tiered waterfall divided by a bridge crossing Laurel Branch. This picturesque spot is a favorite for photography, especially during early morning or late afternoon when the lighting enhances the scene. The trail was originally constructed in 1932 for fire crew access and was paved in 1963 due to increased foot traffic and erosion concerns. Beyond the falls, the trail continues to Cove Mountain, offering a more challenging hike to the historic fire tower. However, as of January 6, 2025, the Laurel Falls Trail is closed for an 18-month rehabilitation project aimed at improving safety and visitor experience. The National Park Service plans to repave and widen the trail, add viewing platforms, and enhance the parking area. During this closure, visitors are encouraged to explore alternative trails such as Grotto Falls, Abrams Falls, or the Little River Trail .
